This story was submitted by Geneva Webb, a customer of BWFA Farrier Sean McDonough of Kansas.

Her story begins early morning on March 23, 2010. She was three weeks premature of her due date, which was April 12th. I knew her mama, Abby was close to having her, but I did not think she would come so soon.

After a short night I woke around 6 a.m. There was Abby with this little light colored foal beside her. I knew right away something was not as it should be. The foal was not walking normally. When I got to the barn, I saw that the foal was walking on her fetlocks instead of her hooves. She could not get those little hooves under her. Other than that she appeared to be completely normal.

Those little legs could not be straightened out easily. I called my veterinarian, Dr. John Brooks who came by with his farrier partner, Sean McDonough. He also advised me to massage and work on stretching the tendons in her legs.

When she was three days old, Sean McDonough and his assistant, Monty came by and put Vettec SuperFast on her hooves. The purpose was to give her more hoof to stand on. We then wrapped the legs. The next step was to put casts on her legs. When she was 6 days old Dr. Brooks and his assistants, put the casts on.

For the first time she was able to move about like a normal foal. Dr. Brooks came out to remove the first cast.

If this did not work, he said the next step may be surgery.

Then a lady I work with told me about using magnesium cream on her.

So what did I have to lose? I bought a bottle of magnesium cream at a local health store, went home and applied it to the one leg out of the cast.

From April 19th to May 1st there was a significant change in her hooves and legs.

I know that each part of the process that was done helped her get on her feet. Once she was walking on her hooves, the Vettec SuperFast gave her a foundation to walk on. The casts helped to stretch those tendons enough to start the process of walking on her hooves. The magnesium cream relaxed the muscles and tendons.

Dr. Brooks had Sean and Monty come back out to trim her hooves. They were amazed at how well the baby looked. They didn’t expect her to look as good as she did. We talked about how potent the combination was of prayer, magnesium cream and Vettec SuperFast.

I am grateful for everyone who helped to bring Starfire to where she is today, alive and well!
