On-Going Hoof Case December 2010- Present December 9, 2010 This horse got his foot caught in a fence and tore half his foot completely off. I casted it with Equicast. We have to wait until the wound granulates to put a bar shoe on him. I also figured it was better to cast his foot for a month to try to keep his foot growing straight. We thought if we shod the foot and it grows deformed, the whole half would grow deformed. This one is going to be a challenge! He is putting weight on it. I went to check on him the other day and he is getting along suprisingly well.
February 8, 2011 Here is the latest on my hoof injury. It looks fantastic! The horse is sound. We put an eggbar with side clips on his foot. Filled the void with Vettec soft (pink) Equipak, 3 circumference wraps with 1 bottom wrap of Equicast. I got the owner to agree to send an article to you but she wants me to write it. The little girl is her daughter, Payton. The horses name is Tater. She calls him "Taterbug" This was a well known barrel horse in Wichita, KS. When this is completely healed this spring we are going to take him to a barrel race so he can walk or even run a pattern if he can. This will be a great story for all of us and probably my topic at the 2011 convention. Thanks for everything.
