My dad went to Bud Beaston’s School in 1968. He had me to start trimming ponies at the age of 9 in 1972. He didn’t have time to shoe my horses when I was a teenager, so I started to shoe my own at the age of 15 in 1978.

I would go to horse shows and people would ask me who shod my horses and I would tell them I did. They didn’t believe me but I didn’t care. I attended Butler County Junior College in 1982  and started shoeing horses for money  for people on the Rodeo Team. After I graduated I went to work with my dad. I worked with him for about 8 years and attended Jack Roth’s horseshoeing school in 1990. I graduated there and went back to work with my dad. While I was there, I became acquainted with a guy named Joe Shell. He introduced me to the B.W.F.A. in 1992. I went to my first convention that year, it was so cool. I got to see a lot of things I had never seen before. It took me from farrier science in the 19th century to the new millennium that was coming. I was certified as a Journeyman II in 1993. I decided to become an expert in injury and disease from then on. I knew it would take more experience, so I devoted the next 15 years to injuries and disease. I read hundreds of books, read all of the literature I could find, put on horse clinics every year to talk to people and gain knowledge.

I opened the Equine Hoof Center of Kansas in 2007. It was a little ahead of its time in my area, and the economic crash that followed forced me to close it. During that time I became acquainted with Dr. John Brooks who is a lameness specialist at his clinic - Meadowbrook Veterinary Hospital in Wichita.

He hired me shortly after that as the clinic's Staff Farrier. Since 2008, we have tackled about everything you can imagine! We have a very unique and respectful professional relationship. We get the job done every time and work together very well!

I received my Master Farriers Certificate at the 2010 Convention. I am currently the only practicing Farrier in the entire state of Kansas that holds a B.W.F.A. Master Farriers Certificate that tested for it.

In my career I’ve shod 16 world champions in different disciplines. Most recently

2009 - 2010 World Champion Western Pleasure & Showmanship P.O.A.

That owner qualified for Rickerts in Oklahoma.

First P.O.A. to show in all breeds- 5th overall I think

2010 National Champion Paso Fino

2nd place Grand National Champion Paso Fino.

2004 World Champion NBHA Barrel Horse.

On-Going Hoof Case December 2010- Present

December 9, 2010

This horse got his foot caught in a fence and tore half his foot completely off. I casted it with Equicast. We have to wait until the wound granulates to put a bar shoe on him. I also figured it was better to cast his foot for a month to try to keep his foot growing straight. We thought if we shod the foot and it grows deformed, the whole half would grow deformed. This one is going to be a challenge! He is putting weight on it. I went to check on him the other day and he is getting along suprisingly well.

Here is the latest on my hoof injury. It looks fantastic! The horse is sound. We put an eggbar with side clips on his foot. Filled the void with Vettec soft (pink) Equipak, 3 circumference wraps with 1 bottom wrap of Equicast. I got the owner to agree to send an article to you but she wants me to write it. The little girl is her daughter, Payton. The horses name is Tater. She calls him "Taterbug" This was a well known barrel horse in Wichita, KS. When this is completely healed this spring we are going to take him to a barrel race so he can walk or even run a pattern if he can. This will be a great story for all of us and probably my topic at the 2011 convention.   Thanks for everything.
